Cable cleats support cables and hold them in place in a cable tray system. Their task is to restrain cable movement, including under the electromechanical forces caused by a short circuit.
PLEASE NOTEA separate system for power distribution: Cable Cleats are cleats for power cables, not fittings for liquid pipework.
Short-circuit withstand and cleat spacing – what does sizing take into account?
In the brochure’s electromechanical force tests, the cable outside diameter is 35 mm: a 180 kA peak current at 300 mm cleat spacing (clause 9.5.2) and a 125 kA peak current at 600 mm cleat spacing (clause 9.5.3). These are values for the stated test set-up, not general sizing values for every installation.
Selection is based on the cable outside diameter, the single/trefoil formation, the cable tray, conductor spacing, short-circuit current and cleat spacing. Peak current (Ip) and RMS value must be kept apart.
