RAMATOR / DATA CENTRES

Data centre
cooling and
connection solutions.

High computing power needs cooling that works. Ramator helps you choose connections that keep coolant flowing under control and make maintenance straightforward. Our solutions extend from data centre cooling and heating pipework to liquid cooling of server racks – and, as a separate system, to the secure fastening of power cables.

SERTO pipe fittings connect the pipes and components of cooling circuits, for example at distribution and equipment interfaces. Radial installation makes joints easier to assemble and dismantle in confined spaces. The range includes straight fittings, elbows and tees, and other connecting parts.

SERTO quick couplings complete the system at connection points that need to be disconnected. The manufacturer’s liquid cooling applications also include data centre racks and chip-level cooling.

PLEASE NOTE

The fitting and seal materials are chosen according to the coolant, operating temperature, pressure and the other materials in the system. The material options should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

The materials are options across the product groups. The exact design, seals and operating limits are confirmed for the product selected.

Show details

The NORMAQUICK PS3 Straight Connector is a straight Push & Seal plastic quick connector. The tool-free snap-fit connection and compact design make installation easier in tight spaces. An integrated O-ring seals the joint.

PS3 is designed for a mating part to the VDA guideline. The body material, stabilised against heat and hydrolysis, is designed for contact with coolant.

PLEASE NOTE

At data centre circuit interfaces, suitability is confirmed on the basis of the coolant, pressure, temperature, hose and mating part. The applications stated by the manufacturer are vehicle cooling and heating lines.

The PS3 product data do not specify the connector as a clean-break dry coupling. How the circuit is shut off and disconnected is designed to suit the application.

Show details

CG-C is a clean-break coupling system mounted directly into the customer’s structure. Valves that close on both sides minimise residual leakage on disconnection and reduce air ingress into the circuit on connection.

The manufacturer’s applications include rack cooling units in data centres. The design is also suitable for blind mating, that is, connecting without a direct line of sight.

PLEASE NOTE

*Depending on the material. Seals are chosen according to the medium and operating temperature. Suitability for glycol-based fluids and connection under residual pressure are confirmed separately.

Show details

Cable cleats support cables and hold them in place in a cable tray system. Their task is to restrain cable movement, including under the electromechanical forces caused by a short circuit.

PLEASE NOTE

A separate system for power distribution: Cable Cleats are cleats for power cables, not fittings for liquid pipework.

Short-circuit withstand and cleat spacing – what does sizing take into account?

In the brochure’s electromechanical force tests, the cable outside diameter is 35 mm: a 180 kA peak current at 300 mm cleat spacing (clause 9.5.2) and a 125 kA peak current at 600 mm cleat spacing (clause 9.5.3). These are values for the stated test set-up, not general sizing values for every installation.

Selection is based on the cable outside diameter, the single/trefoil formation, the cable tray, conductor spacing, short-circuit current and cleat spacing. Peak current (Ip) and RMS value must be kept apart.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions and answers
on data centre connections.

What connections does data centre liquid cooling need?

Mechanical pipe joints suit plant room pipework: Haelok press fittings and NORMA FGR pipe couplings. Around the CDUs, SERTO fittings and quick couplings are used alongside NORMAQUICK PS3 hose connections, selected for each site. Liquid-cooled server racks call for clean-break quick couplings such as the Walther Präzision CG-C. Power cables are supported with NORMAFIX cable cleats.

Can cooling pipework be joined without welding?

Yes. A Haelok press-fit joint is a permanent mechanical joint in which the pipe and fitting form the seal, and the press technique reduces hot work. A NORMA FGR pipe coupling is another mechanical option, selected by pipe diameter and material, pressure, temperature, medium and axial forces.

What is a clean-break quick coupling?

A quick coupling whose valves close on both sides, minimising residual leakage on disconnection and reducing air ingress into the circuit. The Walther Präzision CG-C mounts directly into the structure. It comes in nominal sizes NW 6, 9, 12 and 16 and is also suitable for blind mating.

How is the fitting material chosen for a cooling circuit?

By the coolant, operating temperature, pressure and the other materials in the system. SERTO pipe fittings, for example, come in stainless steel, brass, aluminium, PVDF and polyamide. The materials should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

What does cable cleat sizing take into account?

The cable outside diameter, single or trefoil formation, cable tray, conductor spacing, short-circuit current and cleat spacing. Peak current (Ip) and RMS value must be kept apart. According to the brochure, NORMAFIX is tested to IEC 61914:2015.
